Yesterday, a day that will live in infamy, the Congress of the United States passed the “Stimulus Bill,” a/k/a “the Generational Theft Act.” It is noteworthy that not one member who voted for this had read it. It is up to us to find out what was put into this Bill by unelected staffers and inform the public. It is time to start the 2010 off year election campaigns today. We must defeat as many of the supporters of this squanderfest as possible. It will not stimulate anything except to return poor families to the thralldom of welfare.
Jonah Golberg on the economy.
This is a must read from Jonah Goldberg in National Review Online
Good Article on our moribund banking system.
In the opinion of observers better situated than me to evaluate the health of the big banks in the U.S., several are in perilous condition and it is possible that a number are insolvent. This is another product of the ill advised Community Reinvestment Act, Pub.L. 95-128, 91 Stat. 1147, a piece of legislative idiocy from the Carter era. The response of the government has been wrong headed in the opinion of many economists. Rich Lowry has an excellent article on the condition of our banks and the attempts by the regulatory authorities to correct the situation.

Canadian Embassy Appearance
On Thursday, February 19, I will appear on a panel, at the CanadianEmbassy in Washington. The appearance will be in connection with a two day symposium on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I will speak about my experiences as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. Col. Orson Swindle, USMC (Ret.) and Capt. James Bell, USN (Ret.) will be on the panel with me. Both are good friends with whom I was incarcerated: I lived with Orson for about four years and with Bell for two. After the panel we will break for dinner, then they will screen the movie “The Hanoi Hilton.” If you’ve never seen the movie, and have a strong stomach for violence and gore, I strongly recommend it to you. It gives as accurate picture of our experience as could be done on film and should answer most questions people have about our life in the Hilton.
